Welcome to a unique experience! Assemble at Changi Airport for our flight to the Palermo,

the capital of the autonomous region of Sicily..  

 

  • Discover Palermo, a city with architectural and cultural influences form North Africa, Italy, Spain & Greece.
  • Palermo city tour: Start our tour in the historical centre where the Royal Palace, Palatina Chapel and Cathedral are located.  See the Piazza Pretoria and Via Maqueda with its ‘four corners’ converging Palermo at a quartet of Baroque palaces left over from the heyday of Spanish rule.  Movie fans will recognize Teatro Massimo from ‘Godfather III’.
Lunch

 

  • Drive to Agrigento, renowned as the site of the ancient Greek city of Akragas,  in the south of Sicily
  • Visit Sicily’s most enthralling archaeological site, the Valley of the Temples, considered one of the most important archeological sites in the world (UNESCO World Heritage Site).
  • Enjoy a stroll on the beach to see the unusual white cliff of Scala dei Turchi – Stair of the Turks.

  • Make a stop in Syracuse where the historic city center is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea on three sides.
  • Hop onto a boat for a cruise to see the coastline of Syracuse.  See the most beautiful and captivating grottoes dotted around the island of Ortigia. (During November to March, the cruise will be replaced by a city tour of Syracuse)
  • In the late afternoon, drive to Catania, Sicily’s second largest city located at the foot of Mt Etna.

  • Catania city tour: See the Roman Amphitheatre, built using basaltic dark lava stones, located at a lower level than the baroque town.  Stroll through elegant squares and splendid churches, seeing occasionally archaeological remains dating back to the Roman period.
  • Enjoy some free time in the afternoon to explore the city.  Fans of the movie series ‘The Godfather’ may like to visit Savoca, the film site of the movie and considered one of Italy’s most beautiful villages.

  • Taormina walking tour:   See the Greek Theatre and the glorious sub-tropical terraced gardens before strolling along the elegant Corso Umberto to the Piazza for spectacular panorama across the bay to the Ionian Sea.
  • Drive to the port of Messina for our ferry across the Straits of Messina to the mainland.
  • Make our way through the Calabria Region, located at the ‘toe’ of Italy’s boot-shaped peninsular. , one of the few regions with coastlines along two different seas.

  • Drive to Matera, one of Italy’s most interesting tourist destinations.  Enjoy a walking tour around the ‘Sassi di Matera’, cave dwellings which originated from prehistoric settlement.  Look at the cramped town above the river ravine.  This town was chosen as the film site for ‘The Passion of Christ’ because of its similarity to Jerusalem two thousand years ago.
  • Enjoy lunch in a cave restaurant, a truly unique experience.

  • Today, we will tour Salento, the ‘heel’ of Italy nestled in the clear waters of the Adriatic and Ionian coasts.
  • Visit Lecce, the ‘Florence of the South’, famous for architecture typical of the 17th century.
  • Lecce walking tour:  Visit the Piazza Duomo, once a fortress and today considered the most elegant square in the city.  The grandeur of the Duomo, Penna the five-story bell tower, Bishop’s Palace and the Seminary mark the perimeter of the square and the magnificence of Lecce’s style.
  • Continue to Otranto where the historic center is surrounded by mighty walls and dominated by the castle built in the 15th century as well as the Cathedral with a beautiful mosaic floor from the 12th century depicting the history of the period and the bones of 813 martyrs displayed in a glass case behind the altar.

  • Proceed to the beautiful town of Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Marvel at the curious trulli, round stone houses with conical stone roofs that are unique to the provinces of Bari and Taranto.
  • Visit a local farm where we can taste some olive oil and enjoy a light lunch.
  • Enjoy a visit to the Grotte di Castellana, formed over ninety million years ago and one of the most important attractions of Puglia.

  • We will make our way back to the ‘Eternal City’ - Rome.
  • Enroute, enjoy some guilt free shopping at a designers’ outlet with savings of up to 70% year round at over 100 stores.

  • Rome city tour:  Follow the footsteps of Robert Langdon, the main character in Dan Brown’s ‘Angels and Demons’, around some of the most beautiful piazzas and churches in Rome.   Sights include Piazza Navona, the Pantheon, Santa Maria della Vittoria and Castel Sant’Angelo.
  • In the afternoon, enjoy some free time to explore the city.
  • Suggested optional tour:  Tour of the Vatican Museum (schedule and time permitting)
